How Our Teams Work
We assist our neighbors to develop and submit their asylum applications. The application process is lengthy, detailed and frequently confusing for our neighbors. Our teams assist in this difficult process. We have volunteers, trained by immigration experts, who collect history and demographic information, assure and assist our neighbors to tell the story and details of their persecution. The story of their past and future fear is difficult to share, yet essential for a successful application.
Our three (3) person team consists of an interpreter, an interviewer, and a notetaker. Together, they work collaboratively to listen, learn, and assist our neighbors in telling their story. Once the application is drafted it is reviewed by attorneys before being submitted.
Method
The team collaborates with the neighbor using WhatsApp. The ability to be virtual allows for flexibility in scheduling and location.
Interviewer
Facilitates the conversation so that the neighbor can discuss the details of the persecution in their country: why they needed to leave, and why they would be persecuted if they returned.
Interpreter
Facilitates the conversation so that the neighbor can discuss why they needed to leave their country, whether they were persecuted there, and if they would be persecuted should they return.
Notetaker
Captures the details and completes the documents necessary for an asylum application.
